Hello, and welcome to my online Student Teaching Portfolio. My name is Vann M. Lassiter, and I am a May 2006 graduating senior at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. I am majoring in Business & Marketing Education with a minor in Business Management. This semester (Spring 2006) I completed my student teaching experience at Lufkin Road Year-Round Middle School located at 1002 Lufkin Road in Apex, NC. Lufkin opened in 1999 in a former office building and has since been committed to student success and excellence. Lufkin Road is considered the top performing CTE department in Wake County, having the highest VoCATS scores in Keyboarding and Business Computer Technologies. In 2005, Lufkin served just about 1,032 students and is growing in student diversity. My cooperating teacher was Mr. Andrew Martin a middle school Keyboarding and Business Teacher.

Lufkin Road Middle School operates on a Multi-Track (45/15) Year-Round Schedule, meaning that students in grades 6-8 and teachers are placed on four different "tracks" and these individuals are in school nine weeks and out three weeks. This allows a school to operate 33% above capacity while helping to reduce class size. At Lufkin their vocational and healthful living teachers work on a track five, meaning they work 12-months or all-year round. This semester I taught 6th grade Keyboarding, 7th grade Business Computer Technologies and two classes of 8th grade Exploring Business & Marketing Technologies. Each of my classes was 50 minutes long. I started my student teaching experience early, since my school is a Year-Round School, on January 3rd, 2005. My official start date was January 16th, 2006. I used this time to observe my cooperating teacher, tour the school and meet the students, staff, faculty and administrators at the school. This was most helpful! After about two weeks of observation I gradually began taking over classes one-by-one, starting with Keyboarding, then one class of Exploring Business followed by BCT, and my last class of Exploring Business. My student teaching experienced ended on April 28th, 2006! My experience was AMAZING!
